just a quick post today about what we’re thinking for the kitchen. i love to cook so i’m super excited about essentially getting to design my dream kitchen (with of course space and budgetary limits). i was less than enthused about oh so many of the kitchens we saw house hunting. it really motivated me to beg and plead to mr. hutch that we find a house where we would be able to redo the kitchen. tho a move-in ready house was tempting, i really did not want to settle for a boring builder grade boringness kitchen. my begging and pleading worked!
so when we were under contract on our house, i started collecting ideas for the kitchen. here are some photos that served as my inspiration. (oh. and i have had these for so long, i can’t remember where i got them from. i know it’s a big no-no in the blogging world to steal people’s photos without crediting them so i promise to keep better track from here on out!)
love the color of the walls and the granite!
- obsessed with the dark lower cabinets and the white uppers. also love the hardware.
- i adore this kitchen. everything about it. but especially the lighting, the white farmhouse sink with the bridge faucet. and of course the open shelving!
- love the tile backsplash and again love love love the two-toned cabinets.
so with out further ado, here are the my plans ideas i stole from other people that i am going to replicate.
first, dark lower cabinets, with white upper cabinets. the lower ones we picked out have a hint of red in them (the wood is a cherry and the color is called bordeaux). the upper white caibnets are a bright white and will be all open shelving (again here’s to hoping ardie’s cleaning spirit stays with the home!). the lower cabinets will have the hardware you see in the second picture. next i want a white farmhouse sink with a bridge faucet. hanging above it a big stainless steal light (like you see in the kitchen with the open shelving). a really, really light grey subway tile backsplash with a white/grey granite. stainless appliances. a some sort of grey color on the walls. and then all that’s left TBD is the floor. i’m thinking some kind of stone, but not sure yet.
we went to home depot to order our cabinets and i have a picture that i’ll try and post later. it shows what the actual layout of the kitchen is and gives you a better idea of my master plan.
oh. one thing i forgot to mention, there will be a tv on one of the empty walls. that was mr. hutch’s contribution to the vision : )

bri! i will have to take a picture of the kitchen at one of the homes where I babysit. they have just remodeled an old farmhouse from the 1800s and want everything to be like martha washington’s home (btw the dad flies to nyc during the week to work for espn and the mom’s a lawyer…). anyways…GORGEOUS home. they have amazing lights similar to the ones you’re looking at over their island, and they actually have that type of sink in their island. I’ll send a pic!
